Tackling the loneliness epidemic

  • According to the most recent statistics, loneliness is at “epidemic” levels in the U.S., with 46% of adults saying they sometimes or always feel lonely
  • Through interviews with leading experts, investigative journalist Johann Hari has tried to sort out why so many of us struggle with loneliness, depression and anxiety, and what we can do to turn the tide
  • Through his travels and interviews, Hari identified nine scientifically verified causes of depression — only two of which are biological. The remaining seven are all related to how we live
  • Historically, mankind survived because we banded together and worked as a group. Our very survival often depended on being part of a tribe. When feeling disconnected from community, anxiety and depression arise
  • Internet and social media arrived when our sense of community was already waning, and social media gave the appearance of giving back to us something of what we’d lost — friends and status being two examples. But it’s not a proper replacement, as humans were not designed to relate to each other without face-to-face interactions

Far infrared ray therapy or FIR therapy: clinical results reveal incredible promise

far infrared ray therapyFar-infrared rays (FIR), first explored by NASA scientists, have since captured the interest of the medical community. In clinics and laboratories all over the world, medical practitioners and researchers have tested the effects of FIR on a wide range of conditions. These clinical cases reveal very promising results, suggesting that FIR therapy can be successfully used to accelerate healing, improve sleep patterns, alleviate depression, improve cardiovascular health, treat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and help prevent atheroscleriosis.

These powerful rays are part of the electro-magnetic light spectrum, closest in frequency to natural sunlight. The advantage of far-infrared rays over sunlight is that they contain no harmful UV/UVB radiation.
fir therapyThe BioMat emits therapeutic far infrared waves by sending pulses of energy through a patented carbon ceramic material (Japanese Kurera Super Fiber) and along superconducting amethyst channels. This delivery system allows the rays to safely penetrate the human body to a depth of seven inches, allowing treatment to reach the internal organs.

FIR as an accelerant for wound healing

The Journal of Experimental Biology and Medicine published a study that explored the accelerating effects of FIR on wound healing. The study found that would healing was significantly more rapid when FIR treatment was administered, and that greater collagen regeneration was also noted.  Another study, published in Mycoses Journal, found that far infrared therapy could be used successfully to treat sporotrichosis, a long-term, chronic fungal skin infection.

Far infrared therapy as a sleep regulator

The International Journal of Biometeorology published a study that explored the effects of FIR on sleep modulation. Testing FIR on rats and later on an insomniac patient, FIR therapy was found to enhance blood circulation and sleep patterns. The effects were recorded to be triggered by an exposure to far-infrared rays, which induced an increase in the temperature of the body tissues and an elevated motility of body fluids. A total of 542 subjects reported an improvement in their health.

FIR as a treatment for depression

In an issue of Psychosomatic Medicine: Journal of Behavioral Medicine, a study explored the effects of FIR on mildly depressed patients. Twenty-eight in-patients with mild depression, general fatigue and appetite loss were treated for a total of 45 minutes per day, with an improvement noted after four weeks. The findings suggested that repeated thermal therapy may be useful for mildly depressed patients.

FIR as a treatment for cardiovascular disease

The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, researchers sought to determine whether FIR improved endothelial function (blood flow) in patients with coronary risk factors such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and smoking. The study found that FIR treatment improved vascular endothelial function among patients with coronary (atherosclerosis) risk factors.

Another study published in the Journal of Experimental Biology and Medicine looked at FIR as a way to induce systemic vasodilation (decreased blood pressure). Results suggested that FIR (at 60°C for 15 min) improved cardiac function and vascular endothelial function in patients with congestive heart failure. Interestingly, this study also noted a weight-loss and body-fat loss effect, further compounding the positive effects of treatment.

Far infrared therapy as a treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

A 2005 study published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research explored the use of FIR as a treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Two patients who had been treated unsuccessfully with prednisolone (PSL), a corticosteroid used in the treatment of inflammatory and auto-immune diseases, were subjected to FIR therapy once a day for 35 consecutive days. They were then treated twice a week for one year. Both patients reported a dramatic improvement in symptoms such as fatigue, pain, sleep disturbance, and low-grade fever, with no relapse during the first year of discharge.

The remarkable results of these studies and many others like them being reported around the world further confirm the broad healing properties of FIR therapy. For many patients, even those with hard-to-treat and resistant symptoms, regular far infrared therapy treatment can provide relief and remission.

Mental Accuity & Focus - Not just a concern for seniors

Phosphatidylserine is used for Alzheimer's disease, age-related decline in mental function, improving thinking skills in young people, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, preventing exercise induced stress, and improving athletic performance.

How does it work?

Phosphatidylserine is an important chemical with widespread functions in the body. It is part of the cell structure and is key in the maintenance of cellular function, especially in the brain.

Mental Accuity & Focus

CogniCare™ provides a comprehensive cognitive support for neurotransmitters, focus, mental acuity and mood. Each capsule contains the following healthy brain complexes:

NeuroTransmitter Complex™
Ultimate Focus Complex™
ProAcuity & Mood Complex™

NeuroTransmitter™ Complex- the key to healthy brain activity. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that enable neurons to pass signals to each other and thus allow the body to function properly. Electrical signals are converted to chemical signals at the synapse. This is known as neurotransmission at a synapse. Healthy neurotransmitter activity is essential in proper brain brain function.

The nutrients included in NeuroTransmitter Complex™, and their respective brain support roles are:

Huperzine A - prevents acetylcholine breakdown, one of the body's essential neurotransmitters. This offers the body healthy cognitive performance support.

L-Glutamine - modulates both excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters. As it is highly concentrated in the brain and balances other transmitters, L-Glutamine allows the brain to perform in a healthy state.

L-Tyrosine - plays important role in the production of neurotransmitters which regulate emotions.

Phosphatidyl Serine - modulates the fluidity of cell membranes --- essential for sending and receiving messages. Increases communication between cell membranes by increasing the number of membrane receptor sites for receiving messages. Promotes a healthy brain supply of and output of acetylcholine.

Ultimate Focus Complex™
Acetyl L-Carnitine - a neuroprotective nutrient that passes through the blood-brain barrier. Its neuroprotection is derived from its ability to stop the passage of harmful substances into the brain. Acetyl L-Carnitine is a natural inflammatory that enhances the effects of antioxidant systems within the body. It advances the body’s ability to fight oxidative stress. It is essential in maintaining healthy mitochondrial activity, and promoting healthy glutathione and CoQ10 levels. Acetyl L-Carnitine also works synergestically with alpha lipoic acid, another powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.

Vinpocetine - promotes healthy blood circulation within the brain.

ProAcuity & Mood Complex™
B-12 (methylcobalamin) - promotes healthy mental acuity and mood function.

B-6 - supports normal memory and verbal function.

30 Day Supply

Testimonials:
"When I told my mom that I was having trouble with concentration and focus in school, my mom recommended CogniCare. I was pleasantly surprised to find that one of the best ingredients that I have been able to find through independent research is phosphatidylserine. It is one of the best supplements that you can take in the realm of mental enhancers. Not only was I able to notice an increased ability in the way I manage stress in my daily life, but I was also more and more emotionally stable. In lecture, my ability for taking notes was also enhanced, and I was soon enjoying the perks of a superior short-term memory. Overall, CogniCare is a revolutionary supplement. Its combination of phosphatidylserine with its other ingredients like Vinpocetine, and Huperzine A, enables the supplement to work synergistically for a noticeable improvement in executive function. Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience with others who may be looking for a natural and effective way of clearing the cobwebs from their brains." Beat Depression Naturally

Friday, April 01, 2011 by: Dr. David Jockers

NaturalNews) People with chronic depression often times have significant biochemical imbalances in their neurological tissue. New research has indicated that this imbalance is not a genetic flaw as was once thought. Instead it is due to a heavy onslaught of toxicity or severe nutritional and lifestyle based deficiencies that cause massive brain inflammation; this in effect disrupts normal neurological processing. Fortunately, when these causative factors are addressed, one can overcome the chemical imbalances and beat depression naturally.

Depression and neuro-emotional diseases such as bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. are at an all-time high. The pharmaceutical industry has brought out dozens of blockbuster drugs to treat all of these conditions with billions of $ of revenue every year. Unfortunately, none of these drugs treat the cause of the chemical imbalance, but they merely treat the symptoms and come with a whole host of frightening side effects. In fact, years back the FDA mandated labeling requiring anti-depressant manufactures to include a warning that these drugs increase suicide risk (which is one of the things they are supposed to prevent).

The true cause of depression from a biochemical and lifestyle perspective is due to toxicity or deficiency at the cellular level. Common toxicity problems associated with depression include heavy metals like mercury, lead, aluminum, etc. that accumulate in the fatty tissue of the brain and create massive free radical damage and inflammation that alters neurological function. Viruses and environmental toxins are common inflammatory agents in the brain as well.

Another common toxin that causes massive inflammatory conditions in the brain is certain food intolerances. The most common food allergens to avoid include gluten containing grains such as wheat, barley, rye, oats, kamut, & spelt. Soy products, different nuts, eggs, and heavy proteins are often not tolerated well. Obviously all processed and man-made foods need to be avoided at all costs. Other common allergens include those of the nightshade family such as eggplant, tomatoes, & onions.

An anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle are critical for full recovery from these conditions. Anti-inflammatory foods help to modulate the immune system and give it a more accurate pair of eyes so as to not over-inflame when stimulated. To effectively de-inflame it is key to completely avoid man-made foods, sugars, and food allergens as listed above. The long chain omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA not only are critical for healthy brain function, but also powerfully de-inflame the body by restoring natural balance to the lipid wall of the cell membrane.

Healthy movement patterns produce proprioception (movement information) which is a critical essential for healthy brain enhancing and mood regulating patterns. Boosting proprioceptive input through maintaining healthy spinal function and exercise training has been shown to prevent and reverse depression. Regular chiropractic care and customized physical therapy exercises are critical lifestyle factors for maintaining healthy spinal function. A daily exercise regimen of a high-intensity burst and resistance training program that incorporates core stability and functional balance training enhances proprioceptive input into the brain and balances key hormones that play a role in weight regulation and muscle tone which are factors involved in mental health as well.

Other critical nutrients that are key for mood stabilization include Vitamin D, Folic acid, Pyridoxine (B6), Vitamin B12, Zinc, CoQ10, and trace minerals. Vitamin D levels should be between 60-100 ng/ml. Boost Vitamin D naturally with 20-60 minutes of healthy sunlight every day or 10,000-50,000 IU of emulsified vitamin D3 daily to get the levels where they should be. A raw, whole-food multi-vitamin that supplies ample amounts of folic acid (400 mcg), B6 (4mg), B12(100 mcg), Zinc (15 mg), trace minerals, & CoQ10 (500 mcg) should be consumed daily.
